About Clocky LLC.
Founded by Gauri Nanda, Clocky LLC is an alarm clock brand, currently based in Los Angeles, CA and Lisbon, Portugal.
Gauri has developed her idea of moving alarm clocks at her design class at MIT and successfully turned it into a unique brand.
Currently, Nanda Home commercializes Clocky and other home products.
My Design Role at Clocky
As an Industrial Design Intern, I was responsible of brainstorming, developing and ultimately visualizing concepts through sketches and CAD.
I also got the chance to consider about manufacturability because visioned products had a potential of getting sold to real customers in the market.
Key projects during my internship includes Sanitizing UV Boxes for personal belongings, and a new and organic version of the Clocky Alarm Clock.
Projects
Sanitizing UV Boxes
Considering the impact of COVID-19, sanitization of personal belongings became extremely important. Therefore, a concept of sanitizing boxes was developed. To differentiate our product from the existing UV boxes out in the market, our team gave emphasis not only on the aesthetic aspects, but also multi-functionality as a portable mood light.

The Clocky Alarm Clocks have been quite a success over the years. As a more quicker and brief project, I was given a task to develop a concept for a new version of the alarm clocks.

Reflection
Designing for real possible products was an eye-opening experience, because it had given me realistic insights of how the work atmosphere was going to look like.
Personal favorites often had to be left out because the project had to match a large direction that the company was moving towards. Knowing how to balance the favorites and company’s large picture well is necessary.
Having an open-minded attitude was extremely beneficial because it made the collaborative experience cohesive and rich.
There could be a quick and open-ended projects. They do not always have to be perfect and complete.
